Emergency Declared in Maldives – Expats working in Maldives

State of Emergency in Maldives has been declared in the Maldives, lots of political activities happening here, but as an Expat working here, I am not supposed to be a part of these political activities.

Emergency in Maldives – 2018

Life is almost normal for most of the expatriates working in the Maldives. All Government offices, private shops and almost everything is normal. We have been advised by the Indian High Commission not to move around and follow the rules of emergency. Earlier in 2015 we had an Emergency declared but was lifted soon. Now here it’s a real political crisis and hope things get sorted in the best possible way for the people of Maldives. If such situation continues, the tourism would be very much effected and the main source of Income for Maldives is tourism / resorts and related business.

How does this impact the expatriates working in the Maldives?

There are expatriates from about 50 plus countries working in the Maldives. There are also a good number of Indians working in the Maldives. As of now, nothing much, but there would be strong impact on this.

Cancellation of Visiting Specialist Doctors

Due to emergency in Maldives, the Indian Government has announced travel advisory to the Maldives, all the visiting Doctors from India has cancelled their visits to Maldives for the next 15 days. This includes the Doctors from Sunrise Hospitals – Kochi

Emergency in Maldives – Status Update

As per one of our Doctor who traveled from India yesterday, everything was normal. Tourists has started arriving, infact there were good number of tourists from China yesterday.

Life is normal for most of the people here except some political uncertainty.
